March Happenings

BEWARE!!! I am way behind on my posts so there will be several posts in a row. I have been super busy due to teaching all day right now. But, it is spring break so I'm trying my best to catch up. I'm enjoying break so far. There will be pictures to come. As for the spring part, it is basically non-existent. It is currently snowing outside while I'm in my warm, cozy room. March has been a very busy month. Every weekend has held something exciting.

First things are first . . . I gotta brag on my boyfriend. I ran out of quarters over the last break, so he volunteered to do my laundry for me. This is how it came back to me, all folded nicely. Isn't he so sweet? He touched my heart. :)

For Josh and I's date, we decided to try something new. He had never been to T.G.I Friday's so we stopped in there and even tried a new appetizer.

Here's what Josh thought of it. He actually did like it. He just loves to pretend.

Me, freezing because we were sitting right next to a door and window. But, it was somewhat private, so that was nice. :)

SNOW DAY!!!! Yay! We finally got one. After two snow delays, I was so happy about this one. :) Since the roads weren't that bad, we went to the mall to celebrate. Here are my good friends and I. Yes, we coordinated on purpose. :)

Later that week, we had our annual lock-in at Sports of All Sorts. Basically, you stay up all night while watching and playing sports. This year I lasted the longest I ever have. Here's me and my buds on the way there.

Cheering squad! Aren't we so lively!? Don't blame us, it was 3 in the morning.

I think pool and the late night got the best of Josh and Santiago.

We did pretty well as a team, if I say so myself. :)

Styling our Nikes. :)

Now, what's going on in Kindergarten, you may ask? Well, we have started science, and I love it! And so do the kiddos! They ask almost every day, "Is today science day?" :) Recently we have been learning about the weather. The day we learned about clouds I let them make their own clouds out of shaving cream. Pay close attention to their expressions. Haha! Riley and Ryan loved it!

While these kiddos weren't so sure. Ha!

Neither were these kids! They crack me up. :)

I do have to say the science is probably my favorite subject. We get to do so many fun things, all while learning. The kids adore it and I do too! They even have their own science book, which they think is so special.

Dr. Seuss's Birthday

On March 2nd, it was Dr. Seuss's birthday! Of course, we had to celebrate in Kindergarten! We celebrated on Friday and it was loads of fun. Miss Baker and I put up some bulletin boards a couple weeks before and we are still in the Dr. Seuss mode in our class. Here are some snipets of our classroom and that day. I hope you enjoy it!

To welcome everyone, I made this Cat in the Hat for the door. The kids loved it! However, it didn't stick very well so it came off after a day or two. :(

Here's the bulletin board I did! They each decorated their own socks and the clothespins have their names on them. :)

All of our Dr. Seuss books on the chalk tray so that they could draw their favorite Dr. Seuss character. These were pretty good. Scroll down to see some. :)

I'm working on expanding my own library so I purchased "Fox in Socks" and "Bartholemew and the Oobleck" especially for this day. :)

Warning! There are some fabulous artists in this class. I'm pretty sure that some of them can draw better than me. :) This is The Grinch, of course, with a Christmas tree.

Joshua's picture consisted of many of Dr. Seuss's characters including Cat in the Hat, The Grinch, and Thing 1 and Thing 2. :)

Yes, I realize this is upside down, but I'm not totally sure how to fix it so you get a picture of Cat in the Hat standing on his head. I thought this one was very well done! :)

A drawing of Mr. Fox. That's probably better than my fox! Ha!
Another one of our bulletin boards.

Miss Baker has some really cool Dr. Seuss book covers to hang up around the classroom.

More Dr. Seuss books!

Yet some more! I hope to collect all of these books someday. :)

And some more!

My nice friend Darla let me borrow her Dr. Seuss hat! The kids loved it! And I had fun wearing it. Here are some pictures teaching that day.

Another one. And no, those kids aren't just standing for no reason. They have to stand up when they answer a question and I believe they were both reading words off the board.

When Miss Baker bought those book covers, they came with characters about each book. So cute!

After reading "Bartholemew and the Oobleck," I let them play with their own oobleck that I made. They thought this was the coolest thing ever!

Can you see their excitement!? :)

Haha I just love this picture. Jared is so into this! And made a big mess, of course.

The whole class while playing with the oobleck.

Miss Baker reading another Dr. Seuss book before the day is over.

Dr. Seuss hats! Sadly, we didn't get a whole class picture with me in mine. :(

Cute! :)

:)

Dismissal!

Posing with my bulletin board. :)

We tried to do a fun Dr. Seuss snack, but it was a total flop so we just did it on Monday. :) Here's some green eggs for ya! (Vanilla pudding with green food coloring and vanilla wafers.)

Oh, and we can't forget our stuffed Cat in the Hat! He was partying with us!

 Yep, they're pretty cute!

Posed picture. :)

Overall, it was a great day! It was a lot of fun. I'm glad that Dr. Seuss's birthday only comes once a year, though. I am teaching numbers and P.E. for the first time tomorrow so that should be interesting. Next week I teach the entire day! Yikes! Thanks for all your support and prayers. :)

A Great End to a Great Week

So, this post is about a week late. These events took place last weekend, after the crazy week. On Friday, Miss Baker was gone, so I taught everything, all day long. It was pretty good. The best part is that we had a snow delay on Friday. Well, it was more like an ice delay. I came out to see my car covered in sheets of ice. Ice that couldn't be broken or scraped. So, I just had to wait. I don't think I can ever remember seeing, or scraping, ice this thick. Of course, I had to document this experience.

This first picture shows my car before any scraping had been done, with many icicles hanging off the front.

Side view. And yes, the ground was covered with ice also. But, you see that guy up there in back of the truck? Yep, he's working on the slick ground part. And one of them even helped me scrape my windshield. :)

Close up of the icicles hanging off the front.

Love the icicles hanging off the side mirrors.

Finally got that pesky ice scraped off, after waiting for it to melt a little bit.

When it melted slightly, it actually came off pretty easily.

Because of the delay, our schedule was a little messed up. We had recess in our room where they could play with the toys they brought.

No, this picture isn't posed. They were pretending to be Miss Baker and read stories to each other. :)

Some fun games going on!

That evening, some friends and I went to Winter Jam! Here is Matthew trying to figure out the high tech parking meter thingy.

Meanwhile, the rest of us freeze.

I saw this sign and just had to get a picture of us "singing" by it. :)

One cute couple . . .

The other cute couple. My cute couple was split up due to Josh working hard. I don't mind, though. :)

Cute couple picture. :)

I wanted to take a picture by myself, but Christianna insisted that she be in it. Lol.

Cool view from up here!

I don't think I've ever seen this angle of the skyline before . . .

Finally in line with all these people. We actually got pretty good seats, though.

As we were struggling to take a picture of ourselves, a nice lady offered to take it for us. Yep, I'm the awkward one. Haha!

Inside of the Reds' stadium. I've never been in there so I was amused by it. :)

Us waiting for the concert to start.

I know . . . the famous bad concert picture. But, I just had to.

On another note, while Miss Baker was gone she got engaged! Mrs. Daniels bought ring pops for the girls to celebrate. Here they all are with their rings. :)

Now, the boys weren't so thrilled but we still got them suckers and made them take a picture. Miss Baker was explaining that someday, they can find a good girl and give her a ring. One boy said, "Yes!" and another one said, "I think I will still like Transformers." Haha we got a good laugh out of that one. :)

This past week I have been teaching one half of the entire school day. Next week, I will begin teaching only the other half of the school day. The week after that I will start teaching the entire day! Ahh! I can't believe that I have already completed 6 weeks of student teaching. I am now on the downward spiral. I am thoroughly enjoying it and I think I will like it more when I'm teaching the full day. :)
