100th Day of School!!!

It's finally here! The hundredth day of school has arrived!! The kids knew it . . . the teacher knew it . . . I knew it. However, my body did not know it. Apparently, I was so tired that I didn't want to go to the 100th day of school! What's wrong with me? Who wouldn't want to go to the 100th day of school? I was looking forward to it but I still woke up late. Like 3 and a half hours late. Yep. I can't believe it happened. And I'm quite ashamed that it did. However, I couldn't go back and change it. So, I just had to accept it. After I texted my teacher, I frantically rushed around and made it out the door in about 15 minutes so I ended up being only a little over 2 hours late. Better than 3, right?! When I showed up, the kids were CRAZY already! As soon as they saw my shirt, they all exclaimed, "Miss Wood, I love your shirt!" while simultaneously trying to eat imaginary bubble gum pieces off of it. It was hilarious and I'm surprised they didn't pull any pom poms off. They had already had cupcakes and they were just SO excited about their shirts. Let me just say that I'm glad we only had them for half of the day. :) Here are some pictures from the day of their shirts and art, etc.

This is the sign that Miss Baker made to go outside of the classroom. :)

While they were doing their art projects, I went around and got some pictures of their cool shirts. They were all encouraged to make a shirt with 100 things on it. The most creative shirt got a prize. :) Here is Keaton's with his 100 Legos, in the shape of the number 100, mind you.

Noah with his 100 glow-in-the-dark stars.

Bailey, working so diligently. Her shirt had her name written 100 times. So cute. :)

Jack being silly. I was trying to get a picture of his shirt, which won the contest, but he was being silly. Lol. His shirt had 100 "100 Grand" wrappers on it. :)

Macey's was probably my favorite! It was a stick figure holding 100 balloons, which were all fingerprints.

Working on their art project. :)

Riley, with her 100-Sweetheart heart with an arrow. :)

Chloe and Lauren K. :)

Messy, messy!

All of their masterpieces. :)

Miss Baker reading books having to do with the 100th day of school.

Joshua and his 100 bright colored pom poms!

Of course, they wanted a picture together. :)

And then they did. Lol.

Cody and I. :)

Last, but not least, our class picture. Mostly everyone is looking, surprisingly. :)

After all the crazy kiddos were gone, Miss Baker and I got some cute pictures. :)

It was a good day had by all. Only one of my pom poms fell off, and that was because I was playing Knockout in P.E. Lol. I love being a teacher! :)

Preparations for 100th Day of School!

So, can I just say that I really enjoy all the fun things about teaching . . . such as the 100th day of school! The  actual teaching part~I hope I enjoy that as much in the near future. As of right now I am struggling with the classroom management during my lesson that I am teaching. One certain child has been testing me to see if I will actually make him do what he is supposed to do, etc. I'm doing my best but it is very challenging and exhausting, and at times discouraging. The verse that came to my mind after my lesson today was James 1:2-4. "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that it is mature and complete, not lacking anything." This verse doesn't directly speak of teaching but it spoke to me as I realized that God is trying to teach me patience and perseverance. It's definitely a hard lesson to learn but I am grateful for it. Also, Philippians 4:13 comes to mind. "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

Well, enough of that deep stuff. The purpose of this post is to show my preparations for the 100th day of school, which is coming up on Monday! I am so excited for this! I always remember loving the 100th day of school when I was in elementary school so it's fun to be on the other side. :) Miss Baker has the students wear a shirt that has 100 things on it as a fun project. When I first heard of this I was like, "What?!" But, I searched on Pinterest and found some great ideas. :) The one I fell in love with is a gumball machine with 100  pom poms as gumballs. So, I took a trip to Meijer to retrieve all the things I needed. The most expensive thing was the pom poms cuz I wanted them to match the shirt I bought. Lol. So, here is my pictorial of me making my shirt. Let me just say that it was a little harder than I thought.

Here are all my supplies: t-shirt, felt, pom poms, and fabric glue.

Attempting to cut out a gumball machine that looks decent. Lol.

Doesn't look too bad. The top got chopped down considerably later. Lol.

Time to start gluing on pom poms! Now those took forever!

Gluing some pom poms on . . .

My friend, Montana, graciously took some pics for me. :)

She's a creative one. :)

And, some more pom poms!

Finally, 100 pom poms glued on. I know, it doesn't look like that many, but I counted them . . . several times.

So, as I was gluing on the whole gumball machine to the shirt, the glue decided to break open. This caused much chaos, as you will see shortly. It was highly messy, also! Oh, and did I mention that the package said the toxic ingredients could cause cancer. Oh, joy.

The finished product. :)

So, that huge spot on the bottom left is a result of the glue breaking open. It makes me sad. :(

My attempt to get some of the glue off . . . Yeah, it didn't really work, unfortunately.

Other than the huge glue glob, I really like my 100th day shirt! It was a lot of fun to make. I can't wait to wear it on Monday. :) I will do an update on how the day went. :)

PA or Bust!!

This last weekend I went on a student recruitment trip to Pennsylvania with some people from school. It was a lot of fun but exhausting! Here are a couple pictures from the journey. This first one is before we left Cincinnati. It cracked me up. If you can't read it, it says "Man on Doodie/What's in your backyard?/Cincinnati's Professional Dog Waste Removal Service/Pooper Scooper." Haha this made us laugh so hard! Definitely brightened up our early morning. :)

So, I did awful at taking pictures on this trip but I did let an 8 year old girl take some pictures and this was one of them. Not too bad. lol

On the day we were leaving, we got up pretty early to leave and this is what we saw . . . a gorgeous sunrise. I loved seeing it!

All in all, it was a great trip! On a side note, I taught my first real lesson today. It went better than expected but not extremely well. More on that teaching stuff later. In the mean time I'm gonna keep on freezing in this frigid Ohio weather. :)

Week One of Many

Well, I have now been student teaching for 4 full days! I have mainly been observing but I have also cut out a billion die cut hearts, worked individually with some students, helped out during recess, bathroom break, and lunch, and numerous other things. I just gotta say that I love the things that kindergarteners say! During show and tell the other day, a little girl showed the class how she had lost her two front teeth the night before. As she smiled and showed the class, another little boy said, "I saw that on Facebook." Haha that cracked me up! I didn't expect him to say that at all. I guess that 5-year-olds browse Facebook nightly these days. That's  probably the funniest thing I have heard so far.

Today, I got my first picture from a student in my class. :) It totally made my day better. The funniest thing is that the child who gave it to me is probably the worst behaved kid in the class, but he is so sweet. He described his picture as a falling tower of food including a bunch of fruits and vegetables plus some chocolate. Here is it pictured below:

So, as promised, here is an in-depth description of my student teaching survival kit from my cooperating teacher, Miss Baker. :) Here is the sheet she included in the kit. The sayings above each photo is what it says on the paper.

Animal cookies for when the classroom seems like a zoo.

Band-aids for when things get a little rough.

Chewing gum to help you stick to it.

Crayons to color your day bright and cheerful.

Erasers to remind you everyone makes mistakes.

A Mounds bar for the mounds of confidence you can give the students.

Paperclips to hold it all together.

Pencils to "write your wrongs."

Hand sanitizer to keep you happy and healthy.

Starbursts to give you a "burst" of energy when you need it.

Lotion to help you have a smooth semester.

A toothpick to help you "pick" out the good qualities in others and yourself.

Tissues to wipe away the tears . . . yours and theirs.
And a little something extra to help you get back to the daily grind. :)

And a cool smelly marker! :)

Well, that's about it for now. I absolutely loved my basket and I hope you did too! :)
